Paradise Springs is a small spring pond which holds many trout. Located in the Southern Unit of Kettle Moraine State Forest close to the town of Eagle, it opens to trout fishing from Junuary 1st to the end of the regular trout season on September 30th. Fishing here is catch-and-release and artificial only.
It's crazy to go fishing in January if it's not ice fishing. It's very cold outside of course. This pond won't be frozen and we can fish here from the new year's day. There are tons of trout in this pond, but it's not easy to catch them. When we move a fly in the water, they won't bite it. We know egg pattern flies work here. We don't need fly casting here. We send a fly to the bottom of the pond and leave the fly on the bottom, and wait until trout bite it. That's it. Three hours were the limit for us. We were freezing. We need a warming drink but this park has strict regulations: "No food, no drink here." We couldn't keep fishing here any more without hot drinks. We caught our first trout of the year. That's enough for us. We really needed to warm up. We went back to the parking and drunk coffee before we were completely frozen. QED
